How Curry Day is celebrated in Japan like this

1. School Lunches (Kyushoku) The most common way it is celebrated is through school lunch programs. Across Japan, hundreds of thousands of students are served "Curry and Rice" on January 22nd. This commemorates the 1982 decision to make curry a standard meal in schools nationwide.

2. Special Promotions at Restaurants Many curry chains (like CoCo Ichibanya) and local eateries offer discounts or limited-edition toppings to mark the day. You might see signs or posters saying "January 22 is Curry Day" (1月22日はカレーの日).

3. Home Cooking Since curry is a "soul food" in Japan, many families celebrate by cooking a big pot of curry at home. Supermarkets often have special displays featuring curry roux, potatoes, carrots, and onions at discounted prices to encourage people to make it for dinner.

4. Social Media Trends On platforms like X (Twitter) and Instagram, people post photos of their meals using the hashtag #CurryDay or #カレーの日. Food bloggers often share their unique "secret" recipes on this day.

5. Historical Appreciation Some people celebrate by visiting Yokosuka, a city famous for "Navy Curry" (Kaigun Curry). It is believed that the Japanese Navy introduced curry to Japan, so fans of history go there to try the authentic, original style of Japanese curry.
